Welcome to Washington, DC: Our Nation’s Capital! This city, planned by America’s founders, contains exciting insights into our citizenship and our history as a country. You’ll see the monuments, tour the museums, and experience some of the District’s famous neighborhoods while learning to navigate a new public transit system. Packed with famous sights, free attractions, and an endless calendar of special events, DC offers year-round inspiring experiences!

Things to Do

Hostelling International-Washington, DC’s Winter Adventure Getaway is full of new and fun adventures and experiences. You can take in the sights on a walk through celebrated monuments (Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson, just to name a few), experience iconic buildings (like The Capitol and The White House), and learn about the world around you at the incomparable Smithsonian Institution’s art, science, and history museums – and the National Zoo! In your free time, shop in swanky Georgetown, go ice skating near The National Mall, or grab an authentic meal in Chinatown. Plan ahead with your Congressperson to tour the White House, or get up early to snag some tickets to the Capitol building or Washington Monument. Learn how to navigate the Metro using your included day passes, and at the end of your adventurous day, head on back to HI DC to relax in our fun and secure hostel, and meet people from around the world!

What to Know

  • Adult Leaders/Advisors must accompany girls.
  • Additional overnights and activities can be added at additional cost.
  • The troop is responsible for transportation to and from the hostel and airport transfers
  • An application form is not required for this package. Just contact the project manager for a registration form and GO! Remember to notify your local Girl Scout council that you are traveling on a Getaway, and to follow your local council’s travel and activity guidelines.
