Celebrate the New Year by enjoying the beautiful, tropical climate of Costa Rica and serving local communities!

Ages 12-14 Ages 15-18 International
About the Trip

Immerse yourself in the rich culture of an indigenous village where you’ll work on projects that will support the local community. Explore Costa Rica’s natural wonders while whitewater rafting, zipping through the treetops on a canopy tour, and visiting the vibrant artisan market of San Jose.

This December, venture to the beautiful country of Costa Rica and participate in meaningful service projects that will give you greater insight and understanding into a unique, indigenous culture.

Your adventure will begin with your stay in the remote, culturally rich region of Talamanca. There, you will learn the ways of the indigenous Bribri population, whose beliefs revolve around conservation and environmental protection of their lush, natural reservation. Work alongside these communities on meaningful service projects as they teach you about their local customs and traditions, including their local indigenous dialect and cuisine. Projects may include food distribution, garden building, painting, teaching English, building aqueducts, and recycling projects.

When you are not engaged in service projects, test your tenacity while braving the rapids on a day of whitewater rafting and zipping through the treetops on a canopy tour. Finish up your trip by experiencing the vibrant culture of Costa Rica’s capital city of San Jose, with a visit to a local artisan market.

Since 2006, Outward Bound Costa Rica has been hosting Girl Scouts from across the nation, honing its approach to experiential education for this unique program. Girl Scouts will be exposed to Outward Bound Costa Rica’s focus on both leadership and personal development throughout their adventure, facilitated by discussions and meetings woven into all course activities.
