About the Trip

“It was a crazy experience to open your eyes to look within yourself and the world around you. Before I was stuck in my comfort zone and now I feel stronger and braver.” ~ Annika, Girl Scout Alum

Explore the tropical landscapes and rich culture of Costa Rica with a deep-jungle trek from homestay to homestay!

Rainforest Trek

Your journey will begin with a multi-day hiking trek into one of the most remote regions of Costa Rica! Hike, setup your campsite, and learn about wildlife and the local flora and fauna while gaining insight into the mysteries of the rainforest and the people who live there. After two nights of camping on the trail, experience a variety of group homestays with local families—learning about their language, culture, and way of life. Learn about traditional practices like harvesting and grinding sugarcane, making tortillas, bread and visiting an eco-lodge where you’ll spot exotic tree frog species. Then challenge yourself physically on an 80-foot waterfall rappel and build friendships as you work alongside other Girl Scouts from across the United States.

Tropical Beach Adventures

After you have conquered the hike, you will find yourself at Manuel Antonio, a famous Pacific Coast beach, where you will spend your time exploring and spotting monkeys, sloths, and iguanas. Enjoy the warm waters with activities such as boogie boarding, swimming and enjoying the sun!

Additional Activities

Finish your experience honing in your teamwork skills with a day of whitewater rafting, exploring the treetops on a zipline canopy tour.

Hear from our Alum

“As a mother of two daughters who have attended 4 trips with Outward Bound Costa Rica, I am so pleased with the program. My daughters attended destinations 10 years apart, yet they both had terrific experiences. Both girls came home from Rainforest River & Reef happy and with their souls filled with peace and love of nature. Both had time to think about things and their place in the world and came back home in a really great place.” – Sloane, GS Mother

“The most meaningful part of my course was pushing myself mentally to overcome physical and emotional obstacles.  This helped me to become a better person in the long run.” – Veronica K., Girl Scout Alum
