“It was a crazy experience to open your eyes to look within yourself and at the world around you. Before I was stuck in my comfort zone and now I feel stronger and braver.” ~ Annika, Girl  Scout, 2017

Trek through lush cloud and rainforests, raft down whitewater rapids, zipline through the canopy, and discover your strengths on this unforgettable adventure. Immerse yourself in the local culture with Costa Ricatraditional family homestays, give back with a day of service in a nature reserve, and experience everything from exploring a world-renowned beach to visiting the vibrant, bustling artisan market of San Jose.

After gearing up at our rainforest base camp just outside of San Jose, your journey will begin with a multi-day hiking trek into one of the most remote regions of Costa Rica. Hike and learn about wildlife and the local flora and fauna while gaining insight into the mysteries of the rainforest and the people who live there. Experience a variety of homestays with local families—learning about their language, culture, and way of life. Participate in traditional activities such as harvesting and grinding sugarcane, making tortillas, bread and visiting an eco-lodge where you’ll spot exotic tree frog species. Challenge yourself physically on an 80-foot waterfall rappel and build friendships as you work alongside other Girl Scouts from across the United States.

Once your hike is over, you will find yourself at Manuel Antonio, an idyllic Pacific coast beach, where you will spend your time exploring and spotting monkeys, sloths, and iguanas. Enjoy the warm waters with activities such as boogie boarding, swimming and enjoying the sun.

Finish your experience honing in your teamwork skills with a day of whitewater rafting, exploring the treetops on a zipline canopy tour, and absorbing a different side of the local “Tico” culture on a city tour and visit to the bustling artisan market of San Jose.

“As a mother of two daughters who have attended 4 trips with Outward Bound Costa Rica, I am so pleased with the program. My daughters attended destinations 10 years apart, yet they both had terrific experiences. Both girls came home from RRR happy and with their souls filled with peace and love of nature. Both had time to think about things and their place in the world and came back home in a really great place.” ~ Sloane, GS Mother, 2017
