About the Trip

Explore Nantucket, one of the world’s best known islands, from historic HI Nantucket, the Star of the Sea Hostel. Built in 1874 as a surf lifesaving station, the youth hostel is one of the only beachfront lodgings on the entire island.

Veteran hostel Manager Janice deMooy will work with your troop to plan an unforgettable visit– from the logistics of travel to the island and getting around once you arrive, to helping you create an itinerary for your stay. Besides serious beach time, options include exploring the island by bicycle and kayak. With flat paved bike lanes and a lot of wonderful public conservation lands, Nantucket is great for cyclists of all ages and skill levels. Do some exploring by kayak: paddle through the protected waters of Nantucket Harbor and check out 7 miles of deserted beach. Discover a little more about the history of the hostel and the island at the Nantucket Shipwreck and Lifesaving. Or learn about Nantucket-born Maria Mitchell, first American woman astronomer, by visiting the Maria Mitchell House and Observatory.
