About the Trip

The 2022 Destination is full and no longer taking applications. Applications ARE being accepted for July 2023.

TECHNOLOGY: Girls will begin their exploration at the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center (GSLC) located in Newport Beach, CA. The GSLC is Orange County’s hub for Girl Scout STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs. Visits to the GSLC provide Girl Scouts from all cultures and backgrounds extraordinary opportunities to practice leadership the Girl Scout way, like a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™, as they explore exciting 21st Century careers and learn how they can take action to make the world a better place. Girls will participate in the INSPIRE interactive program to explore their passion in finding a career they can someday love! Girl Scouts visiting the GSLC also have plenty of opportunities to create lifelong memories — kayaking from the bay-front property, toasting s’mores on the sprawling patio, and participating in fun water and sand activities on Newport Beach’s beautiful Balboa Peninsula.

ENTERTAINMENT: Girls will then participate in a “peek behind the curtain” of Disney Entertainment, offering a 3-night stay at Disneyland Resort with exclusive hand-on activities, behind the scenes tours, and working professionals in the industry leading each session. All events cover curriculum of STEAM, Careers Pathways, and the entertainment creative process. These workshops also are aligned with Core Arts and Common Core Standards. Character themed meals and a three day park hopper experience is included. This three day immersion experience will begin with learning the excitement of a working recording studio, where industry professionals present sight-reading techniques, performance concepts, and the entire process for laying down music tracks. Participants have the opportunity to work with a recording technician while using click track and wireless headsets to produce their very own version of a vocal selection from a beloved Disney film. Girls will then progress to explore the varied kinds of work to be found as a theatrical costumer or fashion designer. Led by Disney Entertainment Costumers, participants are shown samples of elaborate Disney costume designs and given tours of rarely-seen operating facilities, as they learn what it takes to become a professional in this multi-faceted industry. Girls will then experience a unique perspective of the technical complexities of a current Disney Entertainment offering. They are encouraged and challenged to greater heights as technical artists! The workshop includes both a V.I.P. viewing of an Entertainment offering, a brief touring of backstage facilities, and a 90-minute workshop discovering the creative process of making technical magic happen.

TRADITION: Girls will reflect on all they learned while relaxing at Camp Joe Scherman, a 700-acre camping and recreation facility owned and operated by GSOC and located in the southern San Jacinto Mountains, featuring: a pool, two ponds, ropes course, hiking, and Girl Scout traditions. New friendships, forever memories and inspiring dreams for the future will be the best part of this Destination!
