About the Trip

In the quiet and quirky town of Ashland, Oregon, we will spend a week learning about all aspects of theatre during the Ashland Shakespeare Festival. Learning about both backstage processes and onstage acting, we will discover what makes the theatre work from the inside out with the help of professional artists and actors. From theatrical makeup and acting classes, to a Project Runway style Renaissance costuming activity and talks with the artists, we will be learning skills from those making the festival happen themselves. We will get to see four plays such as Much Ado About Nothing, Guys and Dolls, and The Count of Monte Cristo, as well as go on a day trip outside of Ashland to lavender farms just outside of town. It will be a full week of theatre and fun for everyone, no matter what aspects of theatre you are interested in.

The Ashland Shakespeare Festival shows eleven plays on three stages for eight months, making it the biggest Shakespeare festival in the United States. We will be spending a week watching plays and attending festival events and workshops outside of the festival. Taking a day trip outside of Ashland, we will go to nearby lavender farms and get an opportunity to another side of Oregon outside of the town.
