Rock the Dam

Mar 14, 2012

On March 10, 1,000 Girls Scouts, volunteers, and friends put on their green “I Rocked the Dam” T-shirts and walked across the world-famous Hoover Dam, just outside of Las Vegas.

“We wanted do something on a huge scale, and the most iconic thing in Southern Nevada is the Hoover Dam,” explains Renée Cotrell, public relations manager for the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada.

The symbolic “bridging” event across the dam was one way for the Southern Nevada Girl Scouts to commemorate the Girl Scouts’100 years. The day got off to an early start, at 7 AM, with a pancake breakfast and SWAPS event. Along with T-shirts, participants received a lanyard, patch, and bracelet saying, “Rock the Dam.”

Two days later, to mark the actual birthday on March 12, officials turned the Hoover Dam green! Green bulbs were placed in the lighting all around the dam, casting a green glow onto the water. The lights will remain through March 17.
