Whether it’s through magazines, TV shows, or any form of social media, Kendra Newton is there to get the word out. As the founder of Hot Property Public Relations, Kendra’s job is to get the media to write about or showcase her clients.
Kendra started out as an aspiring journalist. She knew she liked writing, meeting new people, and going to events. Public relations turned out to be a perfect fit. She did the publicity for magazines like Seventeen and Life & Style Weekly, and also worked for a book publisher promoting their books and authors. After doing PR for six years in New York City, Kendra decided to form her own agency. Her agency’s clients include Miss New York America, a dermatologist in Phoenix, and a model-actress. They all rely on Kendra to book print and TV interviews and find ways to help them promote their interests.
Kendra tells girls who want to start their own business that they don’t have to do everything on their own. “You’ve got to ask for help from everyone you know,” she says. “Ask family, friends, teachers—you may find that they’ll be really helpful.” She believes that girls can become entrepreneurs at any age because, as she says, “Your dreams don’t have an expiration date.”
