Cool Contest Alert!

Mar 21, 2013

Girls in grades three to eight have a special opportunity to join a writing contest called Dare to Dream…Change the World. The grand-prize winner will receive $1,500 worth of books for the library of their choice. And the top-30 entrants will get their work published as an e-book!

Got your pen out? Here are some details: For your entry, you will write a biographical poem and a nonfiction paragraph about someone who not only dreamed but also took action and made the world better. Entries are due no later than April 30, 2013. Winners will be announced after June 1.

To get inspired, check out our authors on The Studio and our Storytellers videos—like Janie Havemeyer, who writes about unforgettable women in history, and Sue Macy, who writes about women in sports. Or go to our Inspiring Women Timeline to read about game-changing women, like astronaut Sally Ride, first female Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and civil rights activist Coretta Scott King. And here’s one more inspiring woman—our very own founder Juliette Gordon Low!

The Dare to Dream writing contest is sponsored by Jill Corcoran and Educational Development Corporation. Please don’t send entries to the Girl Scouts. We are not sponsors; we just think this is a cool contest!
